Annual Conference Winter Forum 2025
The Heidelberg Graduate School for the Humanities and Social Sciences invited doctoral candidates from the six participating faculties and guests from Germany and abroad on 20 January 2025 to the HGGS Winter Forum in the Senate Hall and the Old Auditorium of Heidelberg University.
In the first part of the programme, eight HGGS members received their leaving certificate. Selected new doctoral candidates from the HGGS, who represent the broad spectrum of innovative early career research at Heidelberg University, then showcased their interdisciplinary dissertation projects in a short format. Thematically, the presentations included questions on migration and identity, journalism and violence, street art in Russia, traces of former mines in society and the environment in Mongolia and female visions of the Middle Ages. In the late afternoon, Prof. Dr. Anne Sliwka, deputy speaker of the HGGS, rounded up the programme by giving a lecture on “Education as positive freedom: competence, equal opportunities and well-being”. The lecture took place as part of the Ruperto Carola lecture series and offered guests a simultaneous translation into English. Those present were particularly pleased to see the Rector of Heidelberg University in attendance.
