HGGS – Baden-Württemberg Stiftung Active Participatory Investigative Transformative Colloquium (APITC)
Introduction and indications
In order to continue advancing with the set of activities planned by the Scientific Exchange Programme within the framework of South-South-North Cooperation between the Heidelberg Graduate School (HGGS) and the Baden Württemberg Foundation, we will develop three APITCs over several days of work and participatory interaction. These activities will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The results of these active, participatory and investigative meetings will be published by the participants in digital and physical book format. To successfully achieve these objectives, we will follow the following guidelines:
- First, there will be a central presentation on each of the three topics selected for the development of the APITCs; immediately after the conference, there will be an active and participatory debate on the content discussed.
- Next, after a break, we will work in groups of two or three participants, according to the organisation shown in a shared table. This second activity will last approximately 120 minutes. The result of this activity will be the creation of a poster, which must contain one of the following graphic alternatives to facilitate understanding of the topic addressed: (*) a seven-star diagram, (*) a fish skeleton (*) , a process map or (*) an infographic.
- Thirdly, each of the three groups will have 20 minutes for all members (each team member will have 5 minutes) to present the details of the topic they have worked on and captured in the poster. Among the aspects to be presented are:
- Problem, questions and objectives related to the selected topic;
- The procedures that will be followed to answer these questions and achieve these objectives;
- The contexts in which the participatory, investigative and transformative action will be developed;
- The way in which the Interconnected Method of Thought and Action (IMTA) (inter- or transdisciplinarity) would be applied;
- The potential theories that would underpin the essence of this inter/transdisciplinary practical research activity;
- Other aspects, such as limitations, boundaries, etc.
- Fourthly, the plenary session, made up of all participants at the meeting, will proceed to discuss the three main topics presented by the three groups respectively. Approximately 30 minutes will also be allocated for this activity.
Important Notes
- The discussions, debates, and presentations by the three groups will be recorded in their entirety in audio format. This task is the responsibility of each group, who will use the respective recording devices on their mobile phones solely to record each of the ideas and opinions provided by each team and the final collective work.
- It is necessary to pay close attention to the other people when they are speaking so that no detail, idea or content is missed, since all the data and information provided by the participants in the respective groups and during the collective discussion is valuable for the analytical triangulation of empirical information.
- The moderators will visit each of the groups in order to observe the work being carried out and at the same time film moments of the group discussion.
- During all activities, mobile phones or computers will not be used, except for the audio and/or video recordings made by each group.
- Each group will have one person responsible for audio recording, one for producing a five-minute video (such as the one made for the HGGS forum), and another for recording data and information in writing (logbook).
- Each group will have poster-sized paper, markers, and space (inside the main activity room). It is suggested that discussions be held without raising voices.
- Note: Everyone needs to have sufficient space (memory) on their phones for the respective recordings.
