Voices on the Threshold: Creative Writing Encounters Voces en el Umbral: Encuentros de Escritura Creativa. Edited by Vanessa Márquez Vargas and Cristian Camilo Cuervo
Thresholds are liminal spaces where different dimensions converge. They represent zones of intermediation, transit, and access. They are a beginning and an end. In this sense, literature is a gateway to alternate realities and the spectrum of opportunities that only the imagination can allow. Thus, through narrative forms, it is possible not only to tell stories, but also to visualize pasts that are lost or that never were, dream of (un)realizable futures, or even intuit different presents. Literature can become an escape valve or an instrument that goes beyond the expressive and the aesthetic.
This work brings together voices that meet, dialogue, and imagine using the written word as an excuse and a driving force, as a means and as an end. Voces en el Umbral opens a portal to discover the unknown universes that lie within us and that, with just a spark or a breath, are invited to exist.
The book Voces en el Umbral: Encuentros de Escritura Creativa (In English: "Voices on the Threshold: Creative Writing Encounters") is the result of a creative writing workshop supported by the HGGS in June 2025.
This work is written in Spanish by authors from Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Germany, México, Spain and Venezuela. It was compiled and edited by Vanessa Márquez Vargas and Cristian Camilo Cuervo and published by the HGGS.
