Doctoral Candidate Michael Fix

Michael Fix studied Philosophy, Latin Studies and English Studies at the University of Heidelberg and completed his teacher training programme in 2024 with a Master of Education in all three subjects. Since October 2024, he has been working on his doctorate in philosophy under the supervision of Julia Peters (Heidelberg University) and Carsten Dutt (TU Darmstadt) on the topic of ‘Mood (Stimmung) as a constitutive property of aesthetic objects and as a meaningful element of works of art’. His project is funded by the Cusanuswerk. It centres primarily in the field of analytical aesthetics, but also critically incorporates the work of Georg Simmel and Classical German Philosophy. The dissertation aims to establish the concept of mood as an intersubjectively determinable, object-related property of aesthetic objects and works of art that is central to their understanding.

In addition to his academic interests, he is also involved as an organist, church musician, choir director and in opera dramaturgy.
