Managing Director Dr. Astrid Wind

Dr. Astrid Wind has been the Managing Director of the Heidelberg Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (HGGS) since 2013. She previously spent many years working abroad and earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Houston, USA, her Master of Philosophy in English Romantic Studies and her Doctor of Philosophy in English Literature at the University of Oxford, UK. She received funding from the British Academy and Oxford University. Also in Oxford, she worked for several years as a lecturer at Wadham College and as a tutor at Worcester College and Somerville College. Before joining Heidelberg University, she spent seven years as a lecturer and researcher in La Paz, Bolivia, where she co-founded and directed the doctoral programme at the International Institute for Integration of the Convenio Andrés Bello and the National University “Siglo XX”. She accompanied the founding phase of the three indigenous universities in Bolivia (UNIBOL) and has published books and articles on indigenous universities in various regions of the world. In 2018, together with Prof. Cástor David Mora, she initiated the South-South-North Network at the HGGS and published a series of articles and anthologies on interdisciplinary topics.
